The challenge

On this epic London to Brighton Cycle Ride, you’ll leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind and join thousands of fellow cyclists on a scenic 55-mile journey on two wheels, from the heart of London all the way to the picturesque Brighton seafront.

The route

Once out of London you will predominantly cycle along quiet lanes passing through Mitcham, Carshalton, Chipstead, Banstead and Haywards Heath before taking on the thigh-busting challenge that is Ditchling Beacon - a mile long climb to the top of the South Downs where you will be rewarded with awe-inspiring views and a refreshing water break! From there it's downhill for the last few miles onto Brighton’s welcoming postcard-perfect sea front.

How do I register?

You can register by clicking on the registration link on this page.

Does the registration fee contribute towards my fundraising?

Your registration fee contributes towards the cost of your place and is not included in your fundraising target.

How fit do I need to be?

The London to Brighton cycle ride is challenging but achievable. To maximise your enjoyment you do need to train and get out on your bike before the ride! Training plans will be provided.

What kit do I need to bring?

We recommend you have a well-serviced bike – it doesn't need to be carbon–framed or anything special but it should be comfortable and well maintained. As well as your bike it is essential you have a helmet. It's up to you whether you carry a bag with you but we recommend this is fixed to your bike (search for 'bike panniers' online) rather than worn on your back which can become very tiring.

Is transport provided back to London at the end of the ride?

Transport for both yourself (by coach) and your bike (bubble wrapped in a van) is optionally available for £35. You will be able to book this after you have registered your place for the ride.

What mechanical support will there be?

There will be four stationary mechanic points (at the start, at the morning and afternoon water points, and at lunch) but if you’re unlucky enough to experience difficulties in between those points, Skyline will also have roaming mechanics– just give them a call!

Do I get a South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust Charity top to wear on the day?

We give all our riders a South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust Charity Cycle Jersey. When you raise £100 four weeks before your event you will automatically be sent your jersey. Please make sure you let us know if your address or size has changed.

What happens if I don't hit my target by the deadline date?

We will be in regular contact between the time you register and the event date. Fundraising deadlines are usually 4 weeks after the date of the event. We will confirm when you register what the deadline is. If at any time you are concerned about your fundraising progress we ask that you contact us so we can help. If you are not able to reach the target by the deadline set we will work together with you to extend your deadline and support further fundraising activity to help.

What happens if I get injured or can no longer take part in the event?

If you are no longer able to take part please email charitablefunds@swlstg.nhs.uk  if you have one of our charity places, we may be able to defer your place to the following year depending on the event. Please contact us as soon as possible so we can discuss what we can do to help.
