Springfield moves

Sp5

Below you will find key information about themoves taking place at Springfield Hospital including, webinars, FAQs and site and building maps

Springfield Hospital is changing

Construction works finished on the Trinity building in December with nearly 500 staff and patients moving in! The new Shaftesbury building follows in 2023 as we take our first step in transforming local mental health services.

Designed in partnership with staff, carers, patients and service users, our new facilities will provide outstanding environments to support care and recovery for people across South West London.

The new buildings are part of the development of a new ‘Springfield Village’ which will include hundreds of new homes, onsite shops and a new 32-acre park.

Trinity and Shaftesbury buildings will be home to eight existing inpatient wards and a range of our Community and non-clinical teams.

Some of our patients and service users will be affected by these exciting developments. Whilst some of our inpatients are relocating to new wards at Springfield, locations for face-to-face appointments for other service users will change.

You can find further information on materials developed to support move activities below including a paitent webinar, FAQs and details of our new Trust address.

Preparing to move

Please note that timings mentioned in the video below may have changed since this was recorded - the latest timings as shown on this page an in supporitng materials are accurate.

In recent months we were able to give patients and carers a chance to visit the site and familiarise themselves with the new buildings ahead of the moves.

In the video above, our Move team talk through their plans in more detail and share information on the wider development of Springfield Village.

In addition to hosting these webinars, we wrote to all our patients and contacted our carer networks though the Trust's Patient Invovlement Team to share news of the moves, ensuring plenty of notice was provided ahead of time.

The Trinity building was completed and handed over to the Trust in December 2022, with the move taking place over December and January. The Shaftesbury Building will then follow in 2023.

Every effort is being made to minimise disruption to service delivery during the move period, including moving some teams over weekends to avoid having to close services during their usual working hours.

We recognise that moving our services on this scale will inevitably have some impact, however, our teams will be working closely with patients, carers and teams through every step of this transition to ensure this experience is as positive as possible.

Inpatients

All our inpatients will have a robust assessment and an opportunity to co-produce their own individual move plan prior to their move day.

We will be working with patients to move their belongings in the morning after breakfast and patients will move during the afternoon after lunch, with the evening meal being served on the new ward. Additional staff will be available on the day to support the moves.

Outpatients

Our Adult Outpatient Departments in Trinity will formally open fom early January 2023, therefore all appointments will remain in their current location until that date.

CAMHS Outpatient Departments will also retain their current base at Springfield until January 2023 when they will move to the new Trinity building.

All patients affected will receive information from the Trust as usual to inform them of the locations for their new appointments.
