Sharon Spain is an Executive Director of Nursing and Quality.
Sharon was appointed to the role of Director of Nursing and Quality Standards in November 2020 having been acting in the role since September 2019.
Sharon has worked in the NHS for 22 years and started her career as a Registered General Nurse and used these skills to develop the Physical Health strategy and raise the profile in our Mental Health setting. It was during this time she became passionate about working with people with mental health problems and it led to her retraining as a Mental Health Nurse.
Sharon has worked in a wide range of services and specialities and completed a Master’s degree in Clinical Leadership. Sharon is passionate to improve standards of care for the people who use our services and developing the nursing workforce to ensure they have the skills and abilities to provide the best care possible. She is Responsible Person for the Use of Force Act which is to ensure all aspects of patients are cared for using the least restrictive practices, and where restrictive practices are used that staff are fully trained in the use, and every restrictive intervention is clinically reviewed to ensure it was safe and clinically necessary.
Sharon previously completed a secondment as the Acting Chief Nurse at Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
