Celebrating 12 months to go to Springfield Village

To mark 12 months to go until the opening of Springfield Village, we have been finding out what the development means to some of our staff, including what they are most looking forward to.

Here, Janet Idowu, one of our project development nurses, gives her thoughts on the new facilities. Janet’s team is currently based at Springfield Hospital, but will be moving to Tolworth Hospital which is also being redeveloped as part of the Trust’s Estate Modernisation Programme.

What difference do you think the new facilities will make to the Trust and the care we provide?

I think there’s a lot of excitement about moving into the new facilities. Naturally there will be some anxieties as we are all experiencing a big change, however I think it will make a real difference to the way that we work as a Trust. There is a sincere sense that staff on the frontline have been listened to, particularly in regards to the design of the new wards.

What do you think the changes will mean for our patients and the care they receive?

I hope that those who need our services will have a better experience in a better environment, which will hopefully mean they have a better outcome.

What are you most looking forward to?

I know I keep going on about this, but I can’t wait to see the new Springfield Village! I remember walking around the old green during my lunch breaks when I was working on Jupiter ward and how much I enjoyed taking time away from everything in a garden, meeting other staff and service users. I am really looking forward to us having a beautiful park back!

AbzHere, Abz Salama, one of our pharmacists, share his views on the redevelopment of Springfield Village. When the site opens in Autumn 2022, Abz’s team will be moving into Trinity – the building that Abz chose the name for as a part of a competition! Abz also helped to lay some of the final bricks in October 2021.

What difference will the new facilities make to you/your team?

The pharmacy team is currently based in the Morrison Building which is distant from the majority of wards at Springfield Hospital. When the new village opens next year, we will be moving into Trinity - one of the two new modern facilities which will be home to our inpatient wards. Because we spend most of our time visiting our patients and ward-based colleagues, this will make a big difference to me and my team. We’re all looking forward to moving into our new home in Trinity!

What difference will it make to the wider Trust and the care we provide?

Two years ago, Lilacs ward – one of our adult inpatient wards – at Tolworth Hospital was completely transformed and I’ve seen the difference it has made to our colleagues and patients there. I’m looking forward to seeing the same happen here at Springfield Hospital.

What do you think the changes will mean for our patients and the care they receive?

I hope that the new modern facilities will provide a more comfortable, safe and reassuring environment for our patients to receive care and recover in.

Is there anything else you’d like to say about the development?

Thank you to everyone involved in the Estates Modernisation Programme. From what I’ve seen so far, the new facilities look amazing and I can’t wait to move in!
