Trust launches new website for patients, staff and the community

South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust (SWLSTG) today launched its new website which features: extensive information for patients and families, virtual ward tours, a comprehensive service directory, expert advice and event listings from community partners.

The South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust Charitable Fund is receiving generous public support after the family of a former patient  launched a remarkable fundraising campaign calling for donations to be used for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Aquarius Ward at Springfield Hospital.

SWLSTG welcomes non-executive Director to Trust - 19 May 2016

South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust (SWLSTG) is pleased to welcome Richard Flatman as a non-executive Director to the Trust. Richard joined the Trust in April as Chair of the Audit Committee.

Richard is a Chartered Director and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales with extensive business and commercial expertise. He has been Chief Financial Officer at London South Bank University since 2002 and has combined this with a wide range of non-executive roles in higher education including as Governor at University of Wales, Newport and more recently the University of South Wales. Before joining London South Bank, Richard specialised in audit and risk consulting services with Deloitte.

SWLSTG to train highly talented graduates as mental health social workers - 16 May 2016

South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust (SWLSTG) will be partnering with charity Think Ahead to provide on-the-job training for highly talented graduates to become mental health social workers.

SWLSTG is one of 16 mental health services that have been selected to pioneer a new approach to improve support for people with mental illness. Over 23 graduates applied for each place on the programme, which is supported by £12m from the Department of Health.

Transformation of Step Down Service in Merton

South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust (the Trust) has been working in partnership with Merton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), using national best practice, to improve the 'step down' support available for patients after they are well enough to move out of inpatient mental health services.

The Trust has been working with a wide range of stakeholders including the local community, patients, carers, clinicians and partners to develop a service which empowers patients to take much more control over their own care and treatment. This new service will help people with mental health problems receive the right care, in the right place at the right time by supporting their recovery in the community.

Trust celebrates as staff member receives gold medal for outstanding achievements in Psychiatry

South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust (SWLSTG) celebrated earlier this month as Consultant Psychiatrist Dr Lynne Drummond was awarded a gold medal for outstanding achievements in Psychiatry at the '7th Congress in Brain and Behavior' held in Greece on the 29 to 31 January 2016.

Dr Lynne Drummond, the lead clinician for the Trust's nationally commissioned service for severe, enduring obsessive-compulsive and body dysmorphic disorders (OCD/BDD), made the keynote address at the conference where she received the 'Aristotle University Gold Medal Award for outstanding achievements in Psychiatry'.

SWLSTG Recovery College is celebrating Time to Talk Day

South West London and St George's Mental Health Trust will be celebrating Time to Talk Day on Thursday 4 February 2016.

The Trust's Recovery College - a pioneering educational facility and the first in the UK, providing self management courses to support recovery for patients, their families, friends, carers and staff - will be running an 'brew and breather' event, encouraging college students and guests to take time out of their busy every-day lives to chat about mental health over a cup of tea.

The Trust's Patient Experience team have been shortlisted for the awards: 'Turning it Around When it Goes Wrong' and 'Team of the Year' at the Patient Experience Network (PEN) National Awards 2016.

Are you suffering from low mood or depression? Lots of people get depressed in winter, or suffer from 'the winter blues'. The medical name for this winter depression is seasonal affective disorder (SAD).

The Sutton Uplift service - a unique service which offers help and advice to people who are depressed or are anxious - is open for business throughout January to offer support and information on mental wellbeing.

Nearly 60 Christmas charity hampers donated by Trust staff to the Trussell Trust foodbank

South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust staff across the boroughs of Kingston, Richmond, Sutton, Merton and Wandsworth have put together an amazing 58 Christmas charity hampers for the Trussell Trust foodbank this Christmas.

The Trussell Trust partners work with churches and communities to open new foodbanks nationwide, with over 420 foodbanks across the country. All food is donated by the public and sorted by volunteers.
