Arts and Mental Health Charity Hospital Rooms is coming to Springfield.

Arts and Mental Health Charity Hospital Rooms is coming to Springfield.

South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust is excited to welcome Arts and Mental Health Charity Hospital Rooms to Springfield!

The charity will be working with our community of service users, staff and carers to create the art work for our new hospital buildings over the next two years.

To begin this process, they will be visiting a variety of wards during a week-long Arts Festival between 19 - 23rd April 2021. Hospital Rooms will lead art workshops ranging from painting, patterning and designing. The sessions will be led by professional artists, peer tutors and the Hospital Rooms team. This is the very first step in an exciting process of co-production to ensure our new facilities are decorated in line with service user needs.

Hospital Rooms became a charity when a close friend of the co-founders was sectioned under the Mental Health Act and the hospital she stayed in was cold, clinical and not conducive to recovery. They now work across the country with artists, service users and staff to create extraordinary art works for mental health hospitals.

The Trust’s first partnership with Hospital Rooms started on the Phoenix Unit, working with famous artists like Nick Knight, Gavin Turk and Assemble as well as service users and staff to make artworks for the ward. Later they painted the outside of the Recovery College in vibrant colours and led an arts course for students that involved creating the artworks for the communal and teaching rooms.

Bringing our new village into a reality is part of our MLBT program, working with talented people who can support us all to be the best we can and create the most responsive high quality inpatient services that are designed to deliver the most modern mental health care in the country; giving people the best chance to recover in the best environment, and will support staff to deliver the outstanding care our service users deserve. You can find out more about the developments across our locations in south west London here.

There will be a variety of opportunities for service users, staff and the community to attend art workshops and collaborate with the Hospital Rooms team in the coming months, which we will publicise through our newsletter, social media accounts and website In the meantime, if you’d like to get in touch and learn more, please email
