LGBT History Month has been recognised for many years with a month-long programme of inspirational events, honoring the achievements and raising awareness of challenges raising the community. This year, the restrictions placed by the impact of the pandemic, has meant organisations will not be holding face-to-face events, but instead will be finding more innovative ways to mark the occasion.
Stonewall is the largest LGBT Charity in Europe. The Trust are proud to be signed up as Stonewall Diversity Champion members alongside many other Public/private organisations. The Stonewall Workplace Equality Index is the UK’s leading tool for benchmarking LGBT inclusion in the workplace. It is a framework to help create more inclusive workplaces. In 2019 the Trust provided a submission for the Stonewall Workplace Index and, we will be providing a submission again this year.
We want everyone to feel safe, part of our community and proud to be who they are – no matter whether they are staff, patients or public. Recent Stonewall research has demonstrated that the specific needs of LGBT people are too often overlooked in the provision of healthcare. At the same time lesbian, gay and bisexual patients and employees continue to face discrimination, sometimes inadvertent, across the NHS. The Trust is committed to addressing these issues and ensuring we are role modelling inclusive, welcoming behaviour.
