“My first impression was wow!”

“My first impression was wow!”

The Trust’s Springfield Hospital site in Tooting has undergone a major transformation. Two new state-of-the art mental health facilities, the Trinity and Shaftesbury buildings, now sit prominently at the heart of a growing new stigma-breaking community called Springfield Village.

The village is a mixed-use community made up of over 800 new homes, shops, a public square and a 32-acre park. At the centre of the village is the Trinity building which opened in December 2022, and the Shaftesbury building which is due to welcome patients next month. Together the buildings represent a £150m investment.

The video features interviews with staff talking about the incredible difference the new environments are already making to the care and recovery of our patients.

Millie Fullah is the deputy ward manager on Jupiter, one of four large wards in the new Trinity building. “My first impression was wow!” says Millie in the video. For her team, it’s the spaciousness and careful design of the ward which has made the biggest difference, including the new sensory room which has provided a calming sanctuary for patients.

“Coming here felt like jumping through centuries,” says Dr Ewa Zadeh, Avalon ward’s consultant psychiatrist. “The facilities in our new building are really way ahead of what we’ve had before. The biggest change, particularly for patients, is ensuite facilities – it does make it much more comfortable and it’s obviously important for dignity and privacy and just feeling a little more homely.”Springfield Hospital 24
