South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust staff across the boroughs of Kingston, Richmond, Sutton, Merton and Wandsworth have put together an amazing 58 Christmas charity hampers for the Trussell Trust foodbank this Christmas.
The Trussell Trust partners work with churches and communities to open new foodbanks nationwide, with over 420 foodbanks across the country. All food is donated by the public and sorted by volunteers.
Frontline care professionals such as doctors and social workers identify people in crisis and issue a food voucher, which can then be exchanged for three days of nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food. Foodbanks also make time to chat and to signpost clients to other helpful services.
Trust staff were given a list of the types of food needed and encouraged to pick up extra shopping during their weekly shop or bring in any surplus items from home. Food donated by staff was then sorted and packed into boxes ready to be given to people in need.
David Bradley, Chief Executive of the Trust said:
"This is the third Christmas that the Trust has supported our local Trussell Trust foodbanks. This has become a real Christmas tradition at the Trust and we are delighted and proud that so many teams and departments have contributed.
"We are committed to supporting our local community and working with foodbanks such as these is a positive way of helping."
