South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust are pleased to announce that the purchase of parts of our Richmond Royal site has been completed. This marks a key milestone in the delivery of the Estate Modernisation Programme, an exciting multi-million pound programme to build two new hospitals and transform the way we deliver care across South West London.
The developer, RER London Ltd / UK and European Investments Ltd, was chosen following a wide and open marketing campaign and nationwide advertising followed by an extensive evaluation process with the aim of delivering the maximum value to the NHS in order to fund the Trust’s Estate Modernisation programme. The Trust has retained part of the Richmond Royal site for the delivery of outpatient mental health services and we will be refurbishing these over the next few years to provide our patients and staff with an improved environment to continue to deliver excellent mental healthcare services to Richmond residents. We will be working closely with RER and UKEI to ensure minimal disruption to our services whilst work is ongoing.
Matthew Neal, Director of the Estate Modernisation Programme (EMP) said:
“Inpatient services have not been provided at our Richmond Royal site for over 40 years and its age, design and listed status made it significantly challenging and costly for the Trust to update to modern mental healthcare standards. After an extensive public consultation in 2014, parts of the site were declared surplus for the needs of our services and placed on the market in January 2017.
Through the completion of this sale, the Trust will raise significant funds for our Estate Modernisation Programme which will ensure we can self-fund two state-of-the-art hospitals, deliver refurbished facilities at our Richmond Royal site and expand community care across all the boroughs we serve. This is yet another milestone for a project that will help us to continue to deliver first-class mental healthcare across South West London in the best setting for our patients.”
