Trust awarded silver for 2022 Stonewall Workplace Equality Index

Trust awarded silver for 2022 Stonewall Workplace Equality Index

South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust is proud to have advanced in the standings for the 2022 Stonewall Workplace Equality Index (WEI). This year, out of 403 submissions, the Trust has placed 160th with a score of 70.5. This is a significant improvement from the 2020 placement of 307th with a score of 56, and the 2019 placement of 384th with a score of 21.5.

The Trust has also ranked 15th out of 55 in our sector and has received a Silver Employer Award for our work and commitment to workplace equality.

What is Stonewall Workplace Equality Index (WEI)?

The Stonewall WEI is the UK’s leading tool for benchmarking LGBTQIA+ inclusion in the workplace, and acts as a framework to help create more inclusive workplaces.

Each year, the WEI assesses the work at the Trust by asking a series of questions about our commitment to LGBTQIA+ people and the projects we have undertaken in support of this group, including:

  • Employee policies and benefits
  • The employee lifecycle
  • LGBT employee groups
  • Empowering individuals (allies and role models)
  • Leadership
  • Monitoring
  • Supply chains (procurement)
  • External engagement and service delivery (customers, service users and clients)

Read more about the WEI.

We will be meeting with our Stonewall Account Manager to discuss our WEI results in more detail and to start scoping our actions going forward. Stonewall Diversity Champions benefit from in-depth, tailored feedback on their submission, inclusive of written and verbal feedback, with best practice examples and ways Stonewall can support us further.

Who was involved in the WEI?

Throughout 2021, a full consultation with key stakeholders was carried out to finalise our submission. Staff also completed an anonymous survey about their experiences of diversity and inclusion at work which was included as a part of the final scoring.

Our Trust is fully committed to all of the myriad of communities, identities and expression that fall under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella, representing our staff, service users, patients and community. Our Making Life Better Together culture programme aims to reduce inequalities and make the Trust a great place to work.

Our Trust is accredited as a Stonewall Diversity Champion and we work in partnership to empower LGBTQIA+ people and their allies to step up as leaders, role models, and activists in our workplace.

We also have a LGBTQIA+ Staff Network which aims to enhance the employee work experience, support the Trust’s objectives and provide invaluable insights into how the Trust can ensure equal opportunities are available to all employees.
