Trust hosts visitors from Denmark to its ground breaking Recovery College

The Danish Council for Mental Health Care and Psychiatry team visited to learn about the facility and see first-hand how the Recovery College works with patients and carers, how a recovery focus is built into all courses, and the standards needed to become a trainer.

The visitors wanted to find out how the College plans and organises courses, how trainers are trained, and how the College recruits and hires peer trainers - individuals who co-produce and co-facilitate the courses and have personal experience of living with a mental health condition.

Jeremy Coutinho, Manager at the Recovery College said:

"I am very pleased that the Danish Council chose to visit our pioneering Recovery College. The Recovery College was the first of its kind in the UK, providing educational courses to help people with a wide range of mental health conditions, building their confidence, their understanding, skills and abilities to support their recovery journeys.

"It was a pleasure to introduce them to our team, support the development of their services and show them around our excellent college. "We often have requests from all over the world to visit the College and we use opportunities like these to share our expertise and support development of Recovery Colleges everywhere."

Visitors enjoyed the day, saying the visit was very informative, providing a good opportunity see the College at work and meet staff and peer-trainers. They were also able to take learning points away to help them develop their own recovery college.
