On Wednesday, 3 July South West London and St. George’s Mental Health NHS Trust welcomed over 950 people to the annual summer Trust BBQ celebration as part of our Making Life Better Together programme.
This event, involving staff, patients and members of the community, is designed to bring people together, so they could enjoy and celebrate the work the Trust does.
At lunch time, our staff, patients, volunteers and carers were treated to a barbecue celebration including our very own Great SWLSTG Bake Off Challenge!
Eighteen cakes were submitted and judged on their creativity and deliciousness by the Deputy Mayor of Wandsworth Sue McKenney; with the winners announced by Ann Beasley, Chair and David Bradley, Chief Executive.
The winners of SWLSTG Bake Off were:
The winners received certificates and the Great SWLSTG Bake Off apron. The money raised, almost £300, from the cakes sale went to our Trust charity.
The day also saw a range of other activities including a 5K fun run, (with over 100 people taking part), interactive music sessions, information stalls and a penalty shootout. Congratulations to Eddie Agbandje for winning a well-deserved trophy. Wards also got involved by holding their own tea parties during the week.
David Bradley, Chief Executive of SWLSTG said: “I would like to say thank you to everyone who got involved and helped us celebrated today. It really was a fantastic event. We had almost 1000 people attending and everyone I spoke to, said just how much they had enjoyed it. As you know, I will shortly be moving to South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust to take on the CEO role, and it was a fantastic way for me to say goodbye to lots of people.”
SWLSTG Chair Ann Beasley said: “I have been very impressed with a number of people that came to the event. Holding this event every year is one of the commitments we made to you as part of the Making Life Better Together Programme. I think it’s important to have events like this one, where we can come together as an organisation; meet other colleagues in less formal settings. We had a great afternoon with tasty food, pleasant sunny weather and of course our famous Bake Off. It was lovely to see so many of you getting involved in all the activities and making this event such a success.”
