Trust thanks staff and local community with Summer Street Parties

Trust thanks staff and local community with Summer Street Parties

Hundreds of staff, patients, service users and members of the local community came together to celebrate at the Trust’s Making Life Better Together Summer Street Parties in July.

The annual summer celebration is a much-loved event in the Trust’s calendar and after a two-year absence, it was fantastic to see so many people join the parties at Springfield and Tolworth Hospitals. To create more choice and make the parties more inclusive for the Trust’s diverse community, the barbeque that was previously held was swapped for a street food festival serving food from around the world.

The Springfield party marked the completion of the Trust’s two new facilities at Springfield Hospital – Trinity and Shaftesbury – while the Tolworth party celebrated the exciting new developments due to start there next year.

Chief Executive Vanessa Ford said: “The parties celebrated our transformation journey as a Trust and were a small way for us to say a big thank you to all of our patients, staff and communities who have supported us along the way. Thank you to all of you who came and made this event so special and inclusive – a real celebration of who we are as a Trust!”

The roads were closed at both Springfield and Tolworth Hospitals to host the food stalls and a market place with information stands about different Trust services.

There was also a host of activities including a penalty shootout, bake-off competition, patient art exhibition, make-your-own smoothie bikes and face painting. Drop-in drum sessions were also offered thanks to the Trust’s charity who funded the drums.

At the Springfield party, tours of the new Trinity building ran throughout the day. The construction of Trinity and Shaftesbury began in January 2020 after years of planning, preparation and input from hundreds of staff and patients. The party was about celebrating that journey and the opening of the new facilities in Autumn 2022.

Vanessa added: “Thank you also to our construction partners and sponsors who helped make today possible: Barratt London, STEP, London Square, City & Country, and Sir Robert McAlpine. Their contributions, combined with the efforts of our incredible staff, helped us to host such special events for our staff and communities.”
