From 1 April 2019, specialist health services for people with a learning disability in Wandsworth will be provided by South West London and St George’s Mental Health Trust.
The Wandsworth Learning Disabilities Healthcare service, which is currently provided by St George’s University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, will integrate with the Wandsworth Mental Health Learning Disability service, which is currently provided by South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust, providing an opportunity for the two services to work closely together to provide a holistic learning disabilities service, catering for both the physical and mental health needs of people with learning disabilities.
The two services will continue to run as they do currently and service users will not experience any disruption, seeing the same staff they currently see in the same place until the summer of 2019, when both services will move to new premises. Service users and their families and carers will be notified of any changes to the service well in advance so as to limit any anxiety or disruption.
David Bradley, South West London and St George’s Mental health NHS Trust Chief Executive, said: “We are very pleased to be able to integrate the physical health service for people with learning disabilities with our existing mental health service. It brings us closer to providing a joined up service for people in our care and improving outcomes for people living with a learning disability.”
