You may have heard on the news about cases of the South African variant of Covid being detected in Wandsworth.
Our Covid-secure arrangements, including using PPE, social distancing and good hygiene in all our settings (Hands, Face, Space), are in place to keep our staff and patients safe.
However we are encouraging anyone who lives or works in Wandsworth to support the surge testing programme by proactively booking a PCR test as outlined below.
Extra testing facilities have opened in Wandsworth to help quickly identify any further cases of the variant and limit any potential spread. Anyone who lives, works or travels through these boroughs is strongly encouraged to take a COVID-19 PCR test, whether they are showing symptoms or not.
If anyone tests positive, they must self-isolate immediately and pass on details of their contacts to NHS Test and Trace when contacted. There is no evidence to show the South African variant of Covid-19 is more dangerous, however it does seem that the variant may spread more easily, so it is important that we find it quickly to stop any local transmission happening.
Facilities offering asymptomatic PCR testing have been deployed at Wandsworth Town Hall, Tooting Leisure Centre and the University of Roehampton. Further testing sites will be opened during the week and the council will also shortly be announcing further details of where tests can be picked up for use at home.
