The art of happiness

Phoenix project team

The staff and patients of Phoenix ward have had their days brightened by a recent project which saw a team of artists install some of their latest works in the ward.

Each artist was allocated a space or room and worked closely with the unit’s residents, clinicians, consultants and occupational therapists to develop their installation. The effect was that each room was decorated in its own unique style. Before the project each room looked largely the same, now each is different.

Although the Phoenix Unit is not open to the public the response of the staff and patients has been very positive. According to one resident: "I think the new design is changing the way we all live our lives on the ward.  The art has given us all a new way to start conversations with each other and things already seem so much better."
