What you can expect

Young people who use our services get an assessment of their mental health needs and a plan of the care and support they will receive. You will will also have one named person who co-ordinates your care and support. This person will be called either a named professional or, if your needs are more complex, a care co-ordinator. This person will be your main point of contact and you can speak to them about how your treatment and support are going.

The purpose of Corner House is to enable deaf young people with mental health difficulties to do the things they want to do, live the lives they want to live and access opportunities all young people should take for granted. To achieve this, we work collaboratively with service users, families, schools, and other professionals. We aim to provide a positive experience for all the young people accessing our service and equip them with the tools needed to reach their agreed goals. This could include, but is not limited to, support with; education. communication, deaf identity, relationships and friendships, leisure activities or spirituality.

When admitted to Corner House, young people are expected to attend Corner House School during term time Monday to Friday.

Referrals

Referrals can be made by a range of services including CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services), paediatricians, audiologists, social services, schools, GP's and national deaf outreach services.

We encourage telephone contact to discuss potential referrals. Following this a referral form is completed and sent via post / fax or e-mail to the unit. The unit is commissioned by NHS England and referrals are accepted from within the UK. For referrals outside England funding will need to be agreed with the local team prior to admission.
