Photo of staff member from Aquarius ward Our staff bank provides a range of flexible work opportunities and whatever your skillset, grade or specialty, we can offer you a flexible work pattern to suit your needs and lifestyle.

Our bank colleagues cover temporary staffing shortages and support services where there is a sudden increase in demand. By joining our bank, you can choose teams to work with that can work around your availability.

Our staff bank is also available for our existing permanent staff to join, who would like to pick up additional shifts to support our departments whilst earning extra.

If you are new to the Trust, you will need to go through a recruitment process that allows us to find out more about you. There will be a different process if you are already a member of the SWLSTG team - please get in touch with the temporary staffing team to find out more.

For those who are new to us, here are the steps you need to take to join our staff bank:

  • Complete the application form:  Click here to open the form Please read the instructions in the form carefully and make sure that you complete all sections. Once this form is processed you will receive an email directing you to the roles that are relevant to you and how to apply for them.
  • Your interview: Once your application has been reviewed you will be invited to an interview based on your skills and vacancies at the Trust. You will be sent an email with all the information you need to prepare for this, including the names of the people/teams you will be meeting.
  • Conditional offer: If you are successful, we will send you a conditional offer (Bank Agreement) by email explaining what references and other documents we require to do your pre-employment checks.
  • Pre-employment checks: Before you can start booking shifts, we must verify your references and complete other pre-employment checks such as a DBS (Disclose and Barring Service) check.
  • Employment health check: You will need to complete an employment health questionnaire before your first shift. This will be screened by our Occupational Health team.
  • Start date: We will let you know when you are able to start booking shifts once we have verified your references.
  • Bank agreement: You will receive a copy of your Bank agreement and details of your induction by email in advance of your start date and sign your Bank agreement with us on your first day at the Trust.
  • Training and induction: You will need to undertake all mandatory training relevant to your role and attend an induction prior to booking shifts. You will receive an email with instructions before starting.

What are the benefits of joining the staff bank?

There are so many reasons to join our bank team:

  • Pick and choose your shifts. You can join our bank and pick and choose shifts to work around you or your family. We just ask that you work at least one shift every 12 months to keep your bank agreement active.
  • Get great rates of pay: All bank rates are paid at inner London weighting and you can even be paid weekly and get additional pay for unsocial hours.
  • Bank work opens doors: Joining the bank could open doors to further professional qualifications, and you may have the opportunity to apply for a permanent post should a suitable vacancy be identified in the team you are working.
  • Try before you “buy”: Bank work is a great way to explore mental health and different specialties and settings without having to commit to a permanent role.
  • Access to NHS Pension
  • Transferable training and development: You’ll be able to access training and development opportunities and the chance to improve your skills. You’ll also have a paid Trust induction.
  • Access to our preceptorship programme: A preceptorship is a type of practical learning that supports all new clinical bank staff at Band 5 or above. This includes those who have done a return to practice course.

We look forward to hearing from you and receiving your application!
